[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

Asha had plopped down with a nice fat mouse near the border of water tribe. It was always tempting to rush over the scent line and see if there was any trace of her former mate. She figured that the tribes had enough trouble without her doing something stupid like that. The warrior didn't want to be mistaken for a Golden spy and end up hurt or worse. So she stayed near the border and watched cats come and go and get on with their lives. She made sure to stay in the shade of the trees, so she looked like she was just enjoying a meal in the shade. Sometimes she climbed into a tree to watch cats since there was a better view, but today she felt no such desire. The weather was actually nice, clear skies and not too hot. Maybe she would find a nice sunny spot to curlup on after she had eaten. She had been hunting all morning, after all.

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

Light bathed the canopy of trees above the woods so often traveled by the patched tom who now hummed to himself as he walked merrily through the grass, his good mood having been with him since waking up in the morning.  With how tense things had been lately, especially being away from the territory he now called home, he had found it hard to find positive outlooks on a day to day basis.  Today was different, however, and the normally happy go lucky tom couldn't help but flash a smile at everyone he passed, the perfect weather no doubt further aiding in his giddy mood.  Realizing that he was not too needed in camp and feeling a direct need to stretch his legs, he made his way out of the camp towards the woods he so loved.  There was nothing like the songs of the birds up in the trees to bring the relaxation and bliss he so craved at the moment.

Normally the curly eared tom preferred to take the long way around, avoiding the flow of the water as much as possible.  On such a fine day, however, a dip on his way to the woods seemed like an excellent idea, and soon the tom was swimming through, the calm waters rippling as his legs guided him towards the opposite bank.  While nowhere near as graceful as a proper Water Tribe cat, he showed a certain amount of expertise in his movements.  During his time as an exile, he had many a times when he had gone swimming with his brother, and he couldn't help but realize how much he had missed the activity despite his preference of less arduous tasks.  Once at the other side, he took his time leaving the waters, shaking himself of the excess weight before he continued on his walk.

It was here that he stopped, taking in the view with wonder.  Who knew when the next time he could simply enjoy himself would come, after all.  As he took a step out of the water tribe's border, however, something - or rather someone - caught his eye.  A nearby movement made him turn his attention to the shade of a tree a good distance away, yet not so far that he could not identify the source of the movement.  His good memory with faces paying off, Averett quickly beamed a charming smile in the direction of a dark she cat beneath the shadow of a tree, looking much calmer than she had on their previous encounter.

"Good day to you, my lady!  If I had but a trifling doubt that today was a day of bliss and wonder, said doubt would surely be lifted away by now.  To think that I would be blessed with an encounter with your lovely presence... the spirits be praised.  How fare you on this fine day, lovely dame?" Averett called out as he walked towards her, hoping to catch her attention if he had not already done so with his arrival at the shore.

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

The warrior saw a cat heading down to the river; they looked familiar, but she couldn't place them. She didn't know too many wate tribers and she was sure the ones she did had dark coats. Well, as long as they didn't object to her being so close to the border... she hadn't crossed it so there was no reason to start a fight. Asha watched the cat swim because it was relaxing. It reminded her of better days with Garrus. Though she never liked the water herself, she did like hanging out with her black water near the water's edge. Not too near, as he had tried to pull her in may times, much to his displeasure. It was almost always Spell's idea to do such a thing and Garrus had always gone alone with her friend's pranks. She smiled thinking of those moments.

Speaking of... It was peculiar that the tom who reminded her of Garrus showed up just as she was thinking about her ex-mate. She had recognized the light furred tom as he grew closer. He was even swimming and t looked as if he had been coming from water tribe territory. If she believed in the spirits she would have considered this a sign... She shook the thought away. "I'm doing well. I hope you can say the same."

Well... okay, she missed Garrus but that was something she always did. It was almost a state of being when she wasn't actively distracted. There was no way she was getting into that with Puddles. The light triber was way too similar to the black-water for that. She had never been good at hiding affection and talking about Garrus would bring up buried feelings she didn't want to discuss. Oh wait.. She was injured, too wasn't she? The fire triber had completely forgotten about her scratches from the raid. Well it seemed she was used to being in that state as well. More so because she had lived as an exile.

"At least I'm better off than I was last time." Minor wounds and one of too more serious ones, but nothing had opened while she was hunting. They couldn't be to bad if they stayed together whike she was chasing prey in the treetops. She didn't need to put herbs or cobwebs on them anymore. "I'm not bleeding out all over the place. I've had worse as an exile." Unfortunately, she hadn't seen worse at the raid on the Goldens.

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

The closer Averett got to the now Orange Fire he had met a while back still sporting pink on her tattoo, the more he realized that she had been on a recent scuffle.  No doubt she had accompanied the ones who had joined the raid, an event he had heard of but been reluctant to join in the worry that they might be attacked while the raid was going, and preferring to stay in his post.  It did not surprise him had this been the case.  She had a fiery spirit to match her tattoo, no doubt the idea of taking action against those bringing such injustice and pain to the tribes was something she had leaped on, the task too tempting to deny.  This thought made him wonder if another friend of his had taken up against the Goldens in this raid, but he preferred not to bring the subject up, not certain if either response would sit better with him and stop him from worrying.

He smiled warmly at her admission to being better off than she had been during their previous encounter.  His gaze quickly scanning her, he noticed she was right.  While the wounds were there, they paled to the horrendous bite she had received before, a fact that both relieved him and saddened him as he realized that he wasn't particularly pleased at her having received bad enough wounds that these paled in comparison.  Preferring not to get her mood down, especially now that she seemed so much calmer than she had before, he purred and dipped his head respectfully, letting her know that her words had not fallen on deaf ears.

"I am pleased to hear that you are doing well, my lady.  It would simply not do to have one as wondrous as you down with such weather.  Why, the lovely day might feel empty and downcast otherwise," he responded with a playful banter, winking at her in his usual way.  "As for me, I dare not complain.  A day such as this is one to cherish, particularly in trying times."

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

Asha was glad that Puddles seemed to be doing well. He didn't look injured and she hadn't seen him at the raid, but that didn't mean he wasn't there. He could have been helping with the injured, even if he was a poisoner. He could have been guarding the safe zone for all she knew. Even if the light triber wasn't there, she was sure he had a good reason for not joining them.

There he went again, flattering her. She felt her ears burn at the compliment. Garrus had been good at doing that, as well. If he only knew who he was dealing with. The thought seemed to be more Fury's than her own and she pushed it away along with the flushed feeling she always got when she found others say good things about her. "Yeah, the weather is pretty nice today." It wasn't that unusual for summer though. Nice weather with the occasional thunderstorm. The dark furred warrior felt sort of dumb for stating the obvious, but the conversation was on the weather so what else was she supposed to say? "So what brings you to this neck of the woods?"

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

Noticing the female's slight tension of muscles as he spoke to her for a moment, Averett considered taking his leave, assuming his presence was not welcome.  Her words followed by her body quickly relaxing however let him know otherwise, and he quickly sat down next to the she cat, whiskers twitching slightly as he did.  Mention of the weather once more made him turn his eyes up at the sky, a calm, serene look on his face as a soothing breeze made the leaves flutter gently above them.  Taking a deep, content breath, Averett took in the sight before closing his eyes for a moment, his curved ear twitching slightly as he heard his companion's words once more.

"A fair question, my lady.  I suppose you could say I am fond of the place.  The song of birds in the trees, the gentle sounds of grass and leaves tuning along to a veritable delight to one's ears.  I could not think of a better place to spend this fine day.  Of course, I never expected to find company such as yourself, fair dame.  Had I known you to be but at the border I would have arrived ever sooner to enjoy of your company for as long as you would have me beside you," he purred, his usual charming smile in his face as he looked down at the Orange Fire with kind eyes.

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

"Forever." The Orange fire blurted out. Shit. That was sappy and sounded a lot ike a proposal. "I-I mean just because you can't spend too much time with me today doesn't mean we couldn't meet tomorrow. So it would be a short time before we saw each other away." That made it sound... not forward, right? Not that she was attracted to the cat beside her. She might considered it- taking another mate. With any cat. She just needed time. And for Garrus to never show up. Asha wanted her former mate to show up. She wanted it more than anything, despite loving other cats. It was the only reason she hadn't told Kirk that she liked him. And now with a cat who reminded her of the black water things would be twice as complicated. If she found herself attracted to the tom beside her at some point would her feelings be real? Or would they just be there because Puddles reminded her of better days?

The warrior mauled all this over as she took a bite of the mouse in front of her. The prey was flavorful and juicy. At least starving wouldn't be a concern for the tribes. They had a whole other season before they even had to start worrying about that. Although, as an exile you tended to worry about things like that all the time. "You want to share this?" The dark furred she-cat poked the mouse with her paw. "Or I could dig up something else. I caught a lot of prey this morning." She wasn't sure if that was allowed- offering prey tbat you intended for you own tribe to a cat from another one. She had more than enough prey to share and she had been the one to catch it. She would give it to whoever she liked. Besides, light tribe was neutral and they healed cats. The only cats she wouldn't offer prey to were the Goldens.

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

The instant blurted out response the Orange Fire gave him caught Averett by surprise, and the tom couldn't help but widen his eyes slightly.  He would not deny to anyone that he did seem to have a way with the she cats, particularly the saucier ones who seemed to enjoy flattery and a good time, yet he knew for a fact that he was never taken seriously - a fact that he cursed severely, as he considered himself a cat of his word and always meant what he said.  Because of this, while she cats who were receptive to his flirtatious ways were more likely to tell him they would like his company for a fleeting moment of fun... never had he been asked to stay beside a cat forever.  He felt the very tip of his curled ears grow slightly hot in a small bout of oddly pleased embarrassment, grateful to be obviously taken seriously for once, yet embarrassed at having been taken so off guard.  He remained mute for a moment, the chatty tom for once at a loss for words before the female took upon talking once more, a stutter in her words this time.

Obviously as taken aback as he was by her admission, Tallia was quick to correct her mistake, making Averett's surprise fade away as a coy smile crossed his features, his whiskers twitching with amusement.  Being used to the rougher, feisty side this Orange Fire had demonstrated since they had met, Averett found this display of shyness absolutely endearing, and he couldn't help but purr to himself.  The topic was quickly changed before he could respond - making him assume she preferred the subject best forgotten - and he turned his attention to the prey offered to him.  A mouse - rather plump as was expected in this time of year - lay before her, and Averett quickly nodded, dipping his head respectfully at her in response.

"I would consider it an honor, my fiery dame, to stay here with you and share your so graciously offered prey.  You have my gratitude," he mewed in an honest voice, taking this as a cue to lay down before the female, leaving the mouse with easy access for both between them.

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

Asha almost had to laugh at the tom's response, as embarrassing as it was for her to have her mouth in front of her brain. That shut him up. It had only been a few seconds of silence, but it was more than she expected from the poisoner. She would take note of that, but... it might seem as if she was flirting with him if she said sappy things like that too often. The dark furred fire triber wasn't one to shamelessly flirt with a cat she didn't like or didn't know. It seemed like she would be giving them false hope.It took her a lot long to fall for a cat, usually, and even longer to admit she liked them. She wasn't sure if it would be false hope, exactly, but.. there was Kirkwood to think about. The warrior did fell something for her earth tribe friend, but she wasn't sure if it was fleeting or not. And if Garrus came back... The Orange Fire needed to sort out how and why she felt the way about the tom sitting beside her. they seemed neutral until he opened his mouth. Then whatever she felt was jumbled and fuzzy as if it was an extremely foggy day.

The warrior pushed the mouse over to the light triber allowing him to take the next bite. She hoped she could just relax and enjoy sharing prey, but she had never been good at staying still. If her body wasn't moving, her mind usually was. It would be impossible to not think this close to the Water tribe boarder. The warrior kept her ears perked for the sound of approaching cats. The seconds seemed to streach out as she waited for a certain black water to cross the river just like Puddles had done. Every time she was met with disappointment. She flicked her ear, as if that one motion would get ride of all her irritation and anxiety. "I'm not used to staying in one place long," the speckled fire triber commented. She couldn't just say 'hey I was hoping to see someone else today!' It's not like she didn't want to see the light furred tom again. It was like how she wished to see Kirk and Garrus in the same day. To be fair, she had thought about Puddles a few times as she curled up to sleep in her nest just like she did with all the other cats she cared about.

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

Enjoying a bite of the food now shared between both cats, Averett sighed in contempt, perfectly at ease beneath the shade of the tree as he realized what a wonderful location this would be for a nap.  Pushing said thoughts out of his mind, however, not wanting to bother his companion, he instead turned to look at her, keeping a watchful eye on her body language.  He found it amusing how she seemed so alert at moments and then so fully lost in thought the next, a rather day dreaming, foggy look in her eyes whenever she went into one of her trances.  Her muscles tensed and her ear twitched whenever there was sounds that might hint at an approaching cat, and Averett couldn't help but wonder if he had accidentally intruded on a planned meeting the Orange Fire had.  Finally she spoke, a final flick of the ear making the tom tilt his head curiously as he listened.

"We could go for a walk if mi'lady so pleases?  We could spend the time with a heartfelt talk under the lush canopy of trees in the woods.  Perhaps that would help sooth whatever worry ails your troubled mind," Averett mewed in a calm, charismatic tone, the smile reaching his eyes as he spoke.

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

"A walk would be good." Asha wasn't sure if she said it because she meant it or not. It wasn't that a walk would be nice, it would in this weather, but it wouldn't ease her mind. It was more saying something to distract herself from having to talk about her problems. "I don't know if it would take my mind off my troubles." The habit she had made seemed to border on ritualistic at time. How many times had she come to this part of the pheasant woods waiting for a cat who might never come? Part of her thought it would be best to move on. The stronger part of her was the part that would never gave up on the black water. Hope kept her here.

The warrior figgited in place and gave a worried glace at the border. It wasn't like Garrus was going to rush out of the trees to greet her if she waited long enough. If he arrived in the tribes, it wouldn't be long before she got wind of it. The figgiting was more because she was indecisive about weather she should put her trust in a cat she had met only once before. It was was always difficult to talk about this with her closest of friends. Spell knew, but only because he had been there. She had talked about it with Bonnie, but they had gotten on the subject of lost family members. It was hard not to put trust in Bonnie because the she-cat often put her trust in Asha first.

The fire tribe warrior swallowed. She could face down Golden and she liked to think she would be brave in the face of caimen, but talking about the past was something that made her turn tai and run. She wouldn't even mention her reaction whe cats tried to breach those carefully built walls she put up ever since her kits... she couldn't afford to think about that. She would have a mental break down for sure if she did. "I'm waiting for my mate." It seemed like she had stayed silent for seasons. She had laid down moons ago and Puddles and her had been in this same spot, just... still. Unmoving. "I lost him in the sandstorms during the drought. It was right before I joined the tribes. I'm not sure he's even alive anymore, but I never found his body." If her black water was dead, she wanted to know. Asha had no closure like this.

"It's the reason I joined the tribes. I keep thinking that maybe if I wait here long enough he'll show up." It was difficult to keep the lain out of her voice, so she didn't bother. Even if she had said things in an emotionless tone, it would be obvious she was hurting. Losing someone you loved was never easy and the pain never seemed to leave. It was as if a thistle had lodged its way into her heart. There was a dull ache almost all the time. It eased over time, didn't hurt as bad, but still hurt. She could function. Somedays it was light, other days she felt as if it was tearing her apart. And if she picked at the wound, like now, like when she spent long periods of time thinking about it... the she-cat felt like the thistle had grown roots and dug deep into her.

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

At the she cat's admission, Averett remained quiet, letting the information sink in.  He had expected some sort of loss in her life, the sadness in her eyes evoking a familiar sensation he had felt during his time as an exile shortly after his own brother had perished.  However, he would have been lying if he was to say that he had expected the Orange Fire to had had a mate in the past.  She was so young...  and already lost so much.  A sad look of sympathy crossed Averett's seafoam colored eyes as he studied her, comprehension dawning in.

"I am deeply sorry for your loss," he mewed with melancholy in his voice, an understanding look on his face as he continued, his gaze on hers.  "I know what it is like to lose someone you care for... but to not even be able to get the closure needed... to know if they really no longer walk this earth with us...  It must be unbearable," he mewed, bowing deeply in apology.  "It was tactless of me to suggest a walk.  My lady, I will wait here with you and pray to the spirits for the best, and hope that you can find your loved one again, whichever the outcome."

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

"You couldn't have know why a walk would be a good idea." The warrior said shaking her head. "You were just trying to help." She swallowed, feeling a bit awkward about a cat honestly wanting to help. It was still a little jarring for a cat you just met to be so helpful over an issue like this. She had come to expect help when injured, but not with problems like this. It had taken her a while for her to accept help when injured, but it seemed it would take even longer for her to believe that others truly cared about her emotional problems. If there was anothrr tribe member Asha trusted or if they had been through something similar, she would expect them to be sincere.

Even if Puddles hadn't cared, she would trust him simplely because he was too much like Garrus for her to not. The fire triber found that she had to keep reminding herself that the light triber before her was not, in fact, her maybe dead mate come back to her. "I'm sorry you've lost someone as well." The dark furred she-cat didn't ask about it, since she figured it would just cause Puddles pain. "You can talk about if you want." She flicked her. Asha had never been good at being sentimental or talking about sharing feelings. "Uh, your loss that is. Or not. I'm fine with either."

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

Averett remained quiet as the she cat spoke, knowing words tended to be of little consolation when it came to matters like these.  There was just as much power in silence, he knew, and this time he opted for it, offering instead a supportive, albeit sad smile at the Orange Fire.  She had taken his intrusion with ease, allowing him to relax slightly, feeling better at not having offended the dark furred female.  Her following question, however, made him tilt his head slightly as his nicked ear twitched in thought.  It had been a long time since anyone had mentioned Steam - far longer than he had been in the tribes - even if it wasn't by name, a fact that just now made itself obviously known to the tom.

The thought of the long gone tom made his eyes dull slightly, losing a bit of their usual happy shine.  He unconsciously passed a paw over his nicked ear, wondering if he really was ready to talk about his own loss.  There was of course another thing to consider.  Tallia's own loss seemed to be such a heavy burden, the lithe tom was not certain if he wished to impose his own on her.  Deciding it would be far too selfish, he finally shook his head, a small smile lifting the corners of his lips once more as he turned to look at the Orange Fire.

"It happened a while ago, mi'lady.  Before the caiman wars even.  I believe it would be unfair of me to bore you with the details as such," he mewed kindly, dipping his head respectfully.  "I would be delighted to hear more of this mate of yours, however!  Perhaps I could be of assistance?  If I were to see him, maybe I could inform him his beloved mate is seeking him still?  That is, of course, if you would grant this lowly poisoner the honor to do so, my esteemed dame," he finished, winking slightly in warm fashion, reassuring her that he meant what he said.

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

The dark furred fire triber noticed Puddles' normal happy look vanished as she mentioned his loss. The she-cat wouldn't push it. She wasn't going to pry into something that wasn't her business, especially if it caused pain in another cat. If the light furred tom didn't want to talk about it, fine. She could understand why he wouldn't. She just wanted to let him know if he did. She needed to make sure her friends knew that she would be there for them. She wasn't sure if she considered the light triber a friend yet, but she didn't hate. Asha just nodded in reply to the tom not wanting to share his hurts.

"That would be great, actually." She would take all the help she could get in her search for the black water. "Well, he's a little larger than your average tom and his fur is completely black. Expect for his maw, neck and paws. They're silver. He's a black water at the moment, but if he joined the tribes he'd probably be an green." They weren't too far apart in age, after all. "He usually goes by the name Garrus." The fire triber paused for a minute, wondering if that was enough detail. Garrus didn't really stand out from the crowd until he opened his mouth. "...You'd probably recognize his voice before anything else. He talks exactly like you. Even down to the compliments..." Asha gave a sad smile. The black water had always believed the best in those he cared about. Even after everything they had been through, Garrus had still thought Asha was wonderful. "I think you two would get along." Yes, the dark furred warrior was sure Puddles and her lost mate could be friends.

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

The moment Averett offered his help, he noticed the Orange Fire show something he had not seen in her yet.  A glimmer of hope, while barely visible, could be seen if you knew where to look, and Averett couldn't help but feel at least a little accomplished at having raised her spirit, even if it was for just a little while.  He listened carefully at her description, eager to remember every detail, and couldn't help but chuckle at being compared to this Garrus.  In his time with the tribes, if there was one thing Averett had not met was a tom quite like him.  The Yellow Water definitely had the way with words that he did, but there was no denying that she was all lady, no trace of tom on her.

Thoughts of the Yellow Water, however, reminded him of something that he had spoken with her long ago.  When they had first met, she had spoken as though if she had not met a cat like him before in her own tribe, which now begged the question...  had that changed?  Would there be any possibility that he was currently staying in the same camp as this Orange Fire's mate and simply not crossed paths with him?  He certainly had not spoken with a cat like himself, at least that he knew of... but that just meant he needed to keep a more watchful eye when his own tribe mates were not in his line of sight.  Making a mental note to ask Fleece about this when he got the chance, he nodded, turning his full attention back to Tallia once more.

"With my current post in Water Tribe, I will make sure to keep a careful lookout for any Green Waters that might fit his description, mi'lady.  I shall try and make conversation with the Yellow Water as well.  The spirits know she has been busy, so I have not been able to have a proper heart to heart with her, but perhaps if the situation arises I might be able to inquire about Garrus.  If I were to find any news, I shall inform them to you with as much haste as possible, my esteemed dame," he mewed in a serious yet pleasant tone.

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

Asha's eyes lit up as the light furred poisoner told her that he would look for Garrus. It was the first time anyone had ever told her that would help with the search. She was sure that her water tribe friends meant well, but... it was hard for her to talk about it, let alone ask for help. It seemed she still wasn't able to ask for help easily. She wasn't sure if she was choosing to trust this tom because he was like her black water, or if because she had grown since being here. She liked to think it was the former. She still didn't trust easily and wasn't sure she ever would. It might have been nice to actually let her guard down around a tom for once. It didn't feel fair to Puddles to do that because he was like Garrus. He seemed like a good cat. Maybe if the fire triber spent more time with him she would see him for who he was and not the tom she missed. That would take time, however. "Thanks. I really appreciate it."

"I guess..." The warrior flicked her ear. Anxiety clawed at her chest, thinking back on their first meeting. "...That's why I freaked out when I first met you. It was like I was seeing a ghost." It might be difficult to lie to the light triber. She wanted to hide some things, it seemed like the smart thing to do. You made sure you could trust a cat. It was stupid, but she had a certain amount of trust for this light furred tribe cat before her.

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

Averett nodded, a pleasant smile on his features as she thanked him.  Knowing from his short time besides this she-cat that she was not one to thank one idly, he took her gratitude very seriously, fueling him further in his goal to help her find out as much as he could concerning her mate.  He wished for nothing more to find him alive and well, but seeing how strained she was at the lack of knowledge of whether she might see him again or not, he would even take bad news as a blessing, knowing that the information would be the first step towards mending her aching heart.  As she continued talking, he heard her once more compare him to this lost mate, and he tilted his head back, a small laugh escaping his throat in the form of a low purr.

"Well mi'lady, seeing as how this is a tom who you saw so much good in you gifted him your heart, I will take this as only the highest of compliments.  You are far too kind to this lowly poisoner.  But alas, with him having gained the love of one as fair as thee, my esteemed dame, I would have to say he is already twice the cat I shall ever be.  He has already accomplished a feat, after all, that a cat such as myself would never be able come even close to.  This Green Light might grasp closely at love, but obtaining it might just not be in the stars for him, after all," Averett mewed courteously, bowing his head at Tallia with respect.  "Still..." he added, a mischievous smile now on his face as he gave her a coy wink.  "I am quite glad to learn that it was at the very least not my being too bold that made you uncomfortable, my lady.  That would have been quite the unforgivable action on my part indeed."

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

Well, she was glad Puddles was taking it as a compliment, even if seemed kind of backhanded that he thought he would never be as good as Garrus. He would never be Garrus, but he could be as good a cat as the black water. She suddenly felt the urge to tell this tom her life story to test the waters. It was impulsive and stupid and she definitely wasn't going to do that. Maybe once she knew the light triber for a few seasons.

"Why don't you think you'll ever find romance?" Asha wanted to tell Puddles he shouldn't give up on romance. She was still holding on to Garrus, to a hope that he was alive. There was a chance he just wasn't into romance. The Orange fire had never felt anything like love towards a cat until she met Garrus. Even then, the feeling had been purely romantic. She had never had any sexual urges. It made her wonder if there was something wrong with her physically, but Garrus had put that fear to rest, as well. It seemed he was the same way. There were probably some cats who didn't want romance because they wanted to put all theire energy into serving their tribe or training. The dark furred she-cat just wanted to make sure it was bis choice. The light furred poisoner was a great cat and there were lots of qualities that she was sure some she-cat would like. The fire triber knew it just by the way he talked.

[Averett | Green Light | Northern Pheasant Woods]

Her question catching him off guard, Averett blinked at Asha for a second, carefully pondering his response.  It was not, after all, that the tom was only after a good time.  No, the spirits knew that if he were to find a she-cat whom loved him fully and he her, he would not think twice before offering his heart to her fully.  He was definitely not known for putting his very heart into the protection and servitude of his tribe, his laziness being well known throughout Light Tribe, so his place in the tribes would be nothing to get in the way of pursuits of the heart.  No, if he were to think of it calmly, he knew the answer was obvious by a simple look at him, his lack of an impressive physique, his lack of loyalty to a single tribe - much preferring to be friends with all despite their tattoos - and the flirtatious nature he had been so often accused of by she-cat and tom alike combined to make him the type of tom no she-cat would probably look at twice as a mate for life.

"I believe," the Green Light finally stated, his gaze now on the sky above with a far off, thoughtful look, "that it is simply not meant to be, my lady.  Of the few things this simple Green Light is, I'm afraid that a viable mate is simply not one of them.  I am certain all she-cats could do far better than this lowly poisoner, my dame, and I am certain they know so as well.  While I provide a fleeting distraction, I most certainly am not the ideal tom most would seek for as sire to their kits.  Although between you and me if I may be so bold, my friend," he added, an amused glint suddenly in his eye as he winked at the Orange Fire in a teasing fashion, "I am of the understanding that I can be quite the excellent kit-sitter for a tom of such inexperience in matters such as these," he chuckled, remembering the day he took care of young Lee for the ever lovely Fleece, a smile crossing his features at the memory.

Shaking his head suddenly, however, he allowed his smile to grow as he beamed down at his companion with a mixture of amusement and an apologetic gleam on his face.  He had let himself ramble quite aimlessly at the poor Orange Fire, and no doubt had bored her with such petty words.  A tad embarrassed over his oversight as well for troubling an already troubled she-cat with idle banter that barely constituted a problem in his eyes, he dipped his head into a light bow as an apology.  He would right this wrong yet.

"But that is enough about me, my fiery dame," he mewed, waving his paw off as if swatting a fly.  "Do tell me more about this life you had with Garrus, if I can be so bold as to intrude.  Surely your life with him must have been one worthy of a tale or two to share with this Green Light?"

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

Asha stared down at her paws as the light triber beside her explained why he would never have a mate. She clenched her maw to keep from telling him he was stupid. It was one thing to not want love, but to think you were unworthy of it... Garrus hadn't though so. She had killed cats, she had lost her kits, she had thought she deserved all the bad things she got, but still the black water had stayed with her through it all. Surely Puddles hadn't done anything as bad as that. Just because he came off as flirtatious didn't mean he was unlovable. Asha wasn't sure she could be the one to tell him this, however. She didn't want to be the one to break his heart. He was too much like Garrus for her to think she might love him for other reason. Not now, anyway.

"I don't mind talking about Garrus. Our first meeting was rather rough..." Asha flicked her ear wondering just how much to reveal. Maybe she should tell a happier story... But just jumping into the middle of her and Garrus' life seemed wrong in a way. "Life as an exile was like that most of the time. I ran with another cat before I met the black water. He taught me everything I know now- fight, hunting, climbing." It was hard to keep the bite out of her voice when she talked about Fury. It was the reason she avoided talking about him at all. She didn't need quests about him. The fire triber didn't like the anger that came up when she talked about him. It seemed like the ginger tom was still controlling her, despite not being around. "We happened upon this clearing. It was near a water source and there was a fallen tree in the middle. The hollowed out stump was still in the ground, as well as the trunk of the tree. There seemed to be enough prey for both of us, there was only one problem. The scent of about three or four cats seemed to be in the area. So we did our usually strategy- divide and conquer. We picked off-"

Okay that sounded more sinister. Too sinister. Even if it was true. "-Uh, like chased away. Usually when some cat loses a fight they get lost." Sometimes they came back and tried to win back their homes. It usually didn't work. Sometimes. Those that came back a second time usually didn't survive.  If they managed to get away the first time. It's not like they won every battle or caught ever cat. Fury and her were the only cats in on this, after all. "For good, most of the time." She wasn't sure if that sounded less horrible, but at least it didn't give the impression that she watched the life drain from an opponent's eyes. "Well I was sneaking around, following the one scent trail I caught. Garrus popped up behind me and asked what I was doing, like he was asking what my name was. Like he was curious and he didn't even think I was a threat." The orange fire had never been a threat to Garrus. Even when she wanted to be. Even if he had gone with Alriyel or the Goldens, she could never hurt him.

"It infuriated me to no end. I hurled insults and threats at him, fluffed up my fur and growled, but none of the seemed to affect him. After I was done with my ranting he told me I was pretty and that just set something off. How dare he flirt with me when I was trying to take over his territory! The thing that could mean his very survival! How dare he find me not threatening in the slightest." It was almost funny, looking back at it. Most of her encounters with Garrus were like that. It was different looking back on those situations when she wasn't angry about them anymore. "I attacked him; I still had a job to do, after all." Fury tended to get pissed when she didn't do her job and that was something she had never wanted. "I chased him off and I felt so PROUD of myself." The dark grey warrior frowned. She was almost disgusted with her behavior back then. Even if it was just fighting... It was still Fury's bidding.

"Garrus had taken it easy on me and when Fury and I showed up at their camp that night, he had came back with a few of the other cats that we assumed had left. He fought me, Fury had to fight two of them. Not one of my finest moments... We ended up running off to lick our wounds, tail between our legs." It wasn't that way and she knew it, but at that moment it felt like a coward's retreat. It was a blow to both their pride and Fury didn't handle getting his pride kicked around well. He was worse than her at it. "It was hard to get Garrus out of my head after that. I didn't see him for at least three weeks, but he was the only tom who stuck in my mind. ...I mean, I was trying to take over his camp and hurt all of his friends and he dealt with it by flirting with me. Who does that?" Asha smiled and shook her head. It wasn't some magical happy meeting where love conquered all. The two of them met and he swept her up in a stream of love and feelings and they had litters of kits and lived happily ever after. Rarely was the world so kind.

It was really their second meeting that had sold her. That was right after Fury and her had ran away and found another place to camp for the night. Fury was rarely kind when they lost a battle it usually was on Asha's tail on the line. She had gotten into one of her fights with her ex-mentor. She still had a scar from that one. But... that was still too personal a story to share with Puddles just yet. So she lied about how their second meeting was three week after that. If she became close to the light furred tom, as close as she was with Kirkwood, maybe she would tell him. Tell him everything. But for now, it was safe to keep secrets.

[Green Light | Averett | Northern Pheasant Woods]

Averett remained politely quiet as his companion told her tale, although he was hard pressed to not chuckle at Garrus's choice of words and actions towards their first meeting.  He had to admit that the Orange Fire was right, this indeed seemed to be a cat he would get along with marvelously.  To hope to appease an opponent one knows nothing of before engaging combat is not always the first thing that comes to mind to most cats, least of all exiles, yet this tom was definitely determined to do so.  Not only that, but he was determined to do so and make sure the memory of him would not be leaving the she-cat's mind anytime soon.  It was all he could do to not burst out in laughter, instead settling for a quiet purr of amusement.

It was clear from the gleam in her eyes how much Tallia cared for the tom, and the Green Light couldn't help but give a sad smile, making a stronger resolution to find out anything he could about this Black Water during his stay in Water Tribe's lands.  However, just as well as he could sense the love for the Black Water, Averett thought he could hear a grit in her voice, a bite at certain words, even those determining her actions.  Words were something the lithe tom was familiar with, and he kept a close attention to all of hers,  noticing the subtle changes and the slights she tried to hide in what he could only guess was shame at the lifestyle she had led during her time as an exile prior to having met her mate.  Again he opted for silence, knowing full well the life of an exile was far from peaceful on most cases and as such reluctant to pass any sort of judgement on the Orange Fire.  If he was right, she clearly regretted her actions; this alone was enough for him.

Her final comment on the matter however did him in, and Averett couldn't help but let out the chuckle he had been so focused on containing.  Not doubting the flirt he knew he came off as on first, second, third... well, in any impression he ever made on most cats, he could see why this she-cat was reminded of her mate when they first crossed paths.  Realizing how conflicting this must be for her, he gave her a sympathetic smile that did not quite reach his eyes, the amusement of her mock indignation at having been flirted with still too fresh to fully shake off.  His whiskers still twitching, Averett shook himself lightly to calm himself down, thinking it rude to blurt out a laugh while speaking to his friend when she had so kindly divulged some of her past to him.

"If I may be so bold to say, my dear lady, your taste in toms is quite impeccable.  To choose a tom who so righteously prefers love over war is a fine choice indeed," Averett purred with a wink, a grin hinted on his face.  "Surely he must be an excellent judge of character to have identified in you not an enemy but a dame whom he would have much more preferred to welcome to his territory.  Why, he must have been so fascinated by your very presence that he could not help but speak his mind and heart about what he saw and felt at the very moment, wishing for nothing more than to learn all he could about you.  It is very possible he perceived your fiery nature not as a threat due to having been so mesmerized by its captivating qualities.  He must miss you as dearly as you miss him," the Green Light commented, the last words spoken in a serious, empathetic tone.

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

"Yeah, that was Garrus. He fought as a last resort. He was good at it, better than me, probably." That had stung at first, but in the end it made her try much harder in training. "He just knew when to use it. He had strength, but he didn't want to use it to hurt other cats. That intrigued me." Come to find out that Garrus had hurt people and regretted it deeply. He had vowed to fight only when there was no other way to win. That was too personal for the orange fire to share without Garrus' permission. "My life as an exile was..." What was a delicate way to put this? "Less than peaceful." Overly violent, at time. "Of course, he could be arrogant about it. About everything actually." She shook her head remembering how annoying his bragging had been after he won their fights or race. "If he won something, he would not let it go. It was his greatest achievement. He had many of those, let me tell you. Sometimes I feel like he was ju s t trying to make me mad. Spell- his best friend, basically- did that too. He probably was egging him on, come to think of it. Garrus and I did end up arguing a lot... Sometimes he pushed the bragging to far, sometimes it was about how to survive, sometimes it was over those little stupid things that don't matter. But no matter how cutting my words were, he showed up the next day. It was like we hadn't even fought the night before."

[Green Light | Averett | Northern Pheasant Woods]

At the Orange Fire's words Averett purred with approval.  If a cat like this had joined Water Tribe, he knew without a doubt that he would be easy to spot.  If all else failed he could at least question Fleece about it.  A tom like that was bound to catch her eye, or so he hoped was the case as that would make the task of locating him that much easier.

Turning his head towards the sky in thought, Averett noticed how the day had changed as he had sat here speaking with his friend.  Time seemed to have flown by, as it was nearing sunset now.  Nodding his head with determination, the Green Light stood up, realizing it would be best to go towards Water Tribe's camp now, knowing most cats would be arriving at camp now and as such he would get a good view of the different inhabitants of the tribe if he were to be present during the usual end of day chatter.  Shifting his attention towards Tallia once more, Averett dipped his head respectfully before speaking, wishing for nothing more than to reach camp but not so much as to forget his manners in front of her.

"My dame, it seems to be that during our time together the hours have flown away.  It has been an utmost delight to spend my day with you, especially one as wonderful as this.  A lovely day can only be made even more so with the company of a fiery lady like yourself," he mewed earnestly before raising his head, a smile on his face as he continued.  "While I would want nothing more than to continue to be at your presence and delight myself in your anecdotes, I'm afraid that if I am to help you in your quest, now would be the perfect time to scour Water Tribe's camp and see if I can perhaps spot your mate.  After all, this poisoner would be shamed and dishonored if he did not try his hardest for your sake, my friend."

[Asha/Orange fire/northern pheasant woods]

Asha stood up and stretched her back in an arch. The air had grown colder as the sun had started to set. The orange fire had the power to heat up the air around her, so she would be okay walking home. She could even make fireballs if it go to dark for her to see. She wasn't worried about running into preditors or anything. She was good at climbing trees and she knew how to use her claws. She could take care of herself. "Yeah. I'm glad I found you today. It was nice talking with you." It was always nice chatting with a cat like Puddles. She still wasn't used to all the compliments; they still made the warrior's ears burn sometimes. But it was kind of him to say so.

This would be one of those times. Except, she was embarrassed about what she was about to say. "I really appreciate what you're doing." Asha stared at the ground, as she said this. "It's... I don't usually have others... I don't let other cats carry my burdens. Thanks for the help." There was no reason for her pelt to burn like that. It was difficult for her to be sincere when talking about how she felt. She barely told other cats about Garrus, let alone asked for help looking for him. "Well, uh I should get back to my tribe." The dark grey she-cat said after she cleared her throat. She started to pad away, when she stopped abruptly and turned her head towards the white tom. "Don't give up on finding a mate. I never dreamed I would find someone, but I did. If exile me found a cat who loved her, then you can too." And without another word she scampered off.
